Right now, I am working on my second laminate flooring project, and am starting to plan my third. My first project was using the Costco store brand laminate. That was a type that needed to be tapped together flat. I did chip a few pieces of laminate, but everything went together smoothly. Right now, I am using Armstrong brand laminate, which needs to be angled in on a hinge. I am in no danger of chipping the laminate anymore, but this system is considerably more difficult for one person to install. You have to give each piece a good strong shake to get it seated properly, and more often than not, the other pieces in the row are dislodged when I do so. After an hour of fitting Armstrong together, I'm exhausted, and left feeling like I've spent the whole time in the gym pumping iron. So, I am probably going to change brands for my living room and dining room, mainly because I'm working by myself. I've looked at WilsonArt, which is tapped together, but I am somewhat daunted by the price at close to 2x my next option. Costco is right out, as the nearest store is more than 100 miles away. My other choice would be Pergo, which is also angled together, but it seems to have an smoother locking mechanism than Armstrong. It also looks thicker than Armstrong, although it is not as wide, which means more cutting and fitting. So, has anybody installed both Pergo and Armstrong laminate, and if so, Is Pergo less of a hassle to install?
