My basement has laminated flooring currently. I would like to build a wall in the middle of the floor.

What is the proper way to go about it?

I have been told by friend (not professionals by any means) to just nail the bottom of the wall through the flooring, but I’m unsure of doing that, since from my understanding the floor is suppose to move about and having a wall on top would limit that.

My other option is to cut out/ remove the section I’m building the wall over. Being that it’s in the middle of the floor, what is the best method of doing so and can that be done?

Thank you
Brad

Walls on top of any floating floor -
Yes cut the strip out and let the new wall sit firmly in the sub floor Leave the apropriate space around the new wall for the exspansion space and fit a skirting over it to cover the gap . The floor still needs to be able to move independantly .
Marked out accurately ,set the deepth of the skill saw blade and do a nice clean cut , remove the flooring and the underlay and there you are . Simple
Partitioning like in a office is something differant as the walls are quite low and theres no weight as such invloved
