Author Topic: KRONOTEX laminate chipping - warranty useless  (Read 4732 times)

I recently purchased a pallet of KRONOTEX laminate flooring from Buildirect.com to do an entire home. I have installed several other brands before. In installing the KRONOTEX floor, the majority of the planks chipped immediately upon installation (following manufacturer directions). Their warranty is essentially senseless; they do not stand behind their product once installed. How does one know of product defects until it is put in use?? It's like saying a new car warranty expires the moment you DRIVE it off the dealer's lot. I have had no meaningful response from Buildirect.com, for one because they are web-based and I cannot personally visit their office or access their Legal dept.
Are there federal/state regulatory agencies that investigate shoddy companies/product and other means of making an online company live up to its obligations.
Disappointed Kronotex customer.

I am/was considering buying Kronotex flooring from DirectBuild as well.  What kind did you get?

I bought Kronotex laminate from Lowe's, QuickLock, and tried to install it.  I got the first row down, but anything after that was terrible.  Not only would it not lock together, but it kept chipping no matter how gentle I was.  Neither Lowe's or Kronotex admitted to knowing of this problem.  I took it back, but still need to buy some.

Chipping on Laminate flooring is not uncommon . As a full time layer its a problem and i have to watch for it all the time when doing  floor
A lot of this problem is there before you even open the first pack .
It gets handled many time before you get it to the house ,bumped and knocked , dropped .
The cornes are the worst but along the grooved edge is the other place . The cracks are so fine they are hard to see . and like a razer of you inadvertantly run you hand over the plank .
Difficulty in putting the planks together can be from the packs open for to long before putting it together , The sub floor it not level or the product is old and the wrappers have holes and the moisture has got into the pack and swelled the tongue and groove . The list goes on and on .
I have never use KRONOTEK but use KRONOPOL flooring on 90% of the work i do , it is consistant BUT the chipping has to be looked for all the time .
Dont give up !
