So i plan on installing a laminate flooring in my kitchen this weekend for my first time. I've been reading everything i can about installation, cleaning, matienance etc.
Just last night i was at home depot picking up a few things and i was speaking to an associate about the installation process. Rignt now i have a un-finished basement and above that is the kitchen floor. The associate was saying that i should install the plastic barrier over my plywood sub-floor and then the foam to keep any moisture from the basement from warping the new laminate floor. Is this correct? i was also reading that you should NOT install the plastic ontop of wood sub floors due to moisture getting trapped and causing mold and warping.. What should i do in my case??
Also i have 3 wooden legs holding up an "L" countertop in the kitchen. Right now these are attached to the floor by being screwed through the bottom of the post through the vinal tile (which is there now) and into the sub floor..
I am concerned about re-installing these the same way because i do not want to put a screw through the laminate and taking away the "floating purpose". My concern is that when the laminate tries to expand and there are screws keeping it from expanding, the new floor may buckle. Any advice would be greatly appreaciated. Thanks
Plastic under the foam is a good thing as well you can tape the foam sheets together as well . As long as there is a movement of air under the sub floor moisture should not be to much of a problem .
If you intend to fix the legs by screwing them drill a bigger hole so the screws are not touching the flooring and have a small space around them for the floor to be able to move . Or just glue the legs to the top of the floor . The glue will have a good initial stick and if movement becomes exscive then it will let go .
