Hi everyone Smiley)

I'm hoping to get some advice/help.  We are doing our whole house in Pergo Signature, Casual Living Laminate, attached underlayment.  God bless him, but my husband is doing the installation, he's taken a few of the "in store" classes at a local home improvement store AND bought the video to watch, which we've watched about 5 times.  Anyways, we've done my two girls room, master bedroom and the hallway, next will be the rest of the house, living/dinning/kitchen and laundry rooms.

We have to pull up part of the hallway due to its not level, which is a bit of problem in the other rooms, but not as bad, we did the level thing with the string and then put in that cement stuff, forget what its called.  We have cement subfloor and put that moisture barrier "Plastic", its 6 mil Contractors Choice, Extra Heavy Duty, Clear Plastic Sheeting (which was suggested by the "laminate installers" at that home improvement store.

The problem:  When I'm walking in the bedrooms I can actually hear the "plastic" underneath.  I'm scared, I don't want my living/dinning and kitchen to sound like this, its obvious there is plastic underneath.  Hubby says he can't hear it, I think its because he's affraid he's done something wrong and will have to pull it all up..

What are we doing wrong?  Does anyone else hear that plastic?  It's really driving me nuts and I can't and don't want that sound in the rest of my house..  please help?  Is this normal?

PLEASE HELP?  LOL  I'm desperate as we will be doing the rest of the house in about 1 - 2 weeks..

Thanks so much, Pamela

What I would do is check the area on the outter edge making sure you left your expansion gaps. Has the popping noise decreased since when you first installed it? The popping noise is from the foam underlayment it should decrease as you walk on, other then that I would call the retailer where you got the floor and ask them.

Hi Kevin and thanks for your reply..

Actually, its not a "popping" noise, its from the plastic moisture barrier that we put down.  The underlayment is "attached" to the actual planks, we got them attached rather than having to put it down seperately from the planks.  So we have underlayment attached to the planks, then a moisture barrier plastic.

Since installing, I've had to hear this awful sound on a daily basis and what I'm thinking is, because the plastic is a large "roll", when we "unrolled" it to cut it to size, as we were going along and installing the planks, this plastic "buckles" up from underneath at the fold areas because it doesn't call to PULL and STRETCH this moisture barrier
plastic stuff down, and its buckling up at the folds under the planks..  does that make any sence?

I'm also thinking that because we didn't use the official "pergo" moisture barrier sheets, this is a problem.  But according to those installers, using the stuff that we bought was more cost effective and would be just as good as the Pergo brand.  Damn lowe's installers..

Thanks for your reply and any reply after this, I really appreciate it.

Hello
I asume this is going down over a concrete sub floor?
What about doing away with the plastic sheet all together and sealing the floor with a concrete sealer specialy for that purpose .
Its a 2 coat situation ,theres a A and a B componant , its epoxy and is easy to apply with a paint roller and brush the edges where the roller wont reach .
Here in New Zealand we use it quite a bit specially where the sub floor is at ground level in damp areas . Because it seals the moisture from coming through the surface you dont get that musty smell after a long time .Can be used under carpets in the same sort of areas to stop moisture coming up through the carpet .
Just think NO PLASTIC NO NOISE !
