Author Topic: Kronotex Laminate from Lowes?  (Read 16511 times)

Anyone tried the Kronotex laminate available from Lowes? I have been
looking at laminate brands and they seemed to have a very nice
color/finish that caught my eye and after looking closely this
particularly line has the underlayment (very thick, actually) attached
to each board. It looks like great stuff for the price (much cheaper
than most others @ $1.97sqft, including the attached underlayment). A
google groups search has returned nothing but praise...

We installed about 500 sq ft of the stuff in our living room and it looks
great.  Installation was tough to start with, but after getting the first
row in place, it went fast from there.  It has worn well the last 6 months,
no scrapes or scratches and cleans easily.

Thanks Jodi for the response. Could you provide some detail in regards
to the installation being tough to start with?

Was tapping the boards to lock them together time-consuming? It doesn't
seem as simple as the "angle and click together" by hand way that other,
albeit more expensive, brands use such as Pergo.

I have installed in a rental apartment, kitchen, hallways, living room and bedrooms, the entire floor.  Looks great, no problems whatsoever and wears excellent.  I used the Shanendoah Oak with Quick-Lock, which has the green padding right on the back.   Easy stuff to use.

I have one problem.  This stuff looks like it was made special for Lowe's, and I ran out of this stuff with about 1 box left to finish the last bedroom.  Now the old Quick Lock is no longer in stock in any Lowes around me and they have a new Shanendoah Oak, looks the same color but bigger, no padding and not sure they will fit.  They come in 24 sq ft per box and the old stuff was about 13 sq. ft. per box.

Any help out there where I can find about 1 box of the good ole stuff? Cheesy  :!:

I have the same problem why Lowes don't cary this product no more? The real reason Lowes does not have this product on there shelf is that they had problems that the padding underneith didn't meet on all sides so that is why they pulled it Because the boards were not flush againest each other and the floor wood rub and the seams wood push up (peek). I would like to know if you or anyone elese has this problem.

Richard,

Thanks for the explaination.  I could not find anyone that knew anything about this issue, but it makes sense.  I have not experienced any problems with my floor at all and I am very happy with it.  By the way, I finally went to a 3rd Lowe's further from where I live and they did not have this product either, but there was someone there who finally called the company, found a product number for me and put in a special order for the 1 box I needed ( I bought 2 just in case).  I was able to finish the floor.  The interesting thing I found when comparing the old product which I have with the new product, that does not have the padding is that the thickness of the laminate wood on the new stuff is much thinner and the new product actually looks much cheaper and less durable.  The fact that the new stuff looks cheaper, does not have any padding and costs more makes me belief they pulled the good ole stuff for perhaps other reasons, as I have no peeks and no problems.  I bought the old stuff not because of the price, but because of the padding already on each piece.  I did not want to have to wrangle with putting down separate padding, etc.

Thanks again.

Cardrx:
Can you supply the product number and name that matched up a newer product with the Lowes Kronotex Quicklock Shenandoah ? Did the interlockes match?
Thanks!
