I saw this stuff at HP today for $2.47.  Across the isle, I saw similar stuff (I think it was Honey Oak and two other styles) with the same brand name for $1.47.  I inquired with the HP flooring guy, and he said it's the EXACT SAME STUFF.  No difference.  He was very clear about this.  He said he could offer it for less because they got it for less originally, but they only had a limited amount at that price.

What do you think?  Sound possible?  I really like the fake texture and look of the laminate (as compared to other laminates).  It would be nice to believe him, but I'm skeptical by nature and seeing two products exactly the same at such different prices is a little hard to swallow.

I discovered something similar.  HD advertised a sale.  Honey oak in the wider plank style showed orig 50 something a box on sale for 20.  In the laminate aisle, trafficmaster honey oak in the typical plank width was selling for 25 a box, not on sale. The sku number was the same. The hd salesperson said that both prices were valid.  Very confusing to know if you are getting a bargain or not.   HD says it was a special purchase and after it's gone it's gone.  Perhaps discontinued colors and styles??  Anyway, I was tired of looking and bought the stuff on sale.  I read in one of the posts that underlayment wasn't necessary but I think it is.  The "good" underlayment ended up costing half of what the laminate cost.

I think you were probably taking a smart chance.  I was actually unable to  buy because it was for a house I hadn't yet purchased, and the financing took longer than I expected, and I didn't want to buy with the chance I couldn't use it.  So I don't know if my local HD has any left now.

Let me know if it works for you.  I'm betting you'll be fine.

Good luck,
Brian
